This website highlights the illicit trade in antiquities. It focuses on missing statuary from Butrint and also discusses the problems at Phoenicê, Albania. The theft of antiquities from archaeological sites is doubly problematic: it deprives a nation of its heritage and identity and also prevents us from understanding these objects in their true historical context.

THE LOOTING OF BUTRINT AND PHOENICÊ   
The Albanian institutional crises in the 1990s culminated in the looting of many museums and sites. Two of the sites most affected have been Phoenicê, the classical capital of Chaonia, and its near neighbour Butrint, a Roman colonial port.
