On the 13th of June the Albanian Heritage Foundation and Toena Publishing House, organized a book launch ceremony at the Rogner Hotel on the occasion of the publication in Albanian of Eternal Butrint, a book by Richard Hodges and translated into Albanian by Diana Ndrenika. The book launch where the author was present, was very well received and there was a lot of media attention too. A second book launch was organized in Saranda on the 15th of June with a lot of participation from the local communities and supported by the Municipality. Professor Richard Hodges, OBE, a former director of the British School at Rome, Director of the Institute of World Archaeology at the University of East Anglia, and Scientific Director of the Butrint Foundation has a long and important contribution in Albania. His projects in Butrint have included an extensive programme of excavation and site management. Today Richard Hodges is the Director of the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archeology and Anthropology, in Philadelphia, USA.
The book is published in Albanian after the original being published in 2006 in the UK. The publication of the book was made possible thanks to the cofounding of Toena Publishing House.
The book opens with a foreword from Lord Rothschild.
“The title Eternal Butrint is inspired by the timeless quality of the city that despite over 2.000 years of human development, retains the beauty and tranquility which first enticed settlers to live there. As Albania continues on its journey to full European integration, with all the strains and pressures that entails, I share the confidence of our Albanian colleagues that Butrint will remain an unspoilt treasure for the enjoyment of many future generations.”
